For the case of Star Trek: The Motion Picture:
Every time Spock speaks of logic or logical. Every time McCoy is afraid of the transporter. Every time Kirk makes reference to sex or Does. His. Thing. Every time Scotty has "trouble with the warp engines." Every time Sulu is gay. Every time Chekov talks about Mother Russia.

I mean, Year Zero was enough to start me thinking, but this is enough to give me great pause concerning the future of our "democracy."

I'm tired of people "convicting" others of hypocrisy. Hypocrisy isn't a crime, a vice, or even something to be gotten rid of.
We're all hypocrites; for example, I can't think of anyone ever whose unconscious and conscious minds were totally in synch. Nor can I bring to mind anyone who has every possible theorem deduced from every possible axiom floating around in his/her head, much less check to see if the full contents of their minds aren't contradictory on some level.
It's stupid, and it's nonsensical, this "hypocrisy" thing.
Secondly, Wikipedia not only has a mascot but that mascot appears to "personify" it. Whoever said Wikipedia was female? |
"Am I the only one here who thinks that arguing about what this might be is futile?
People are getting touched by *something*. Something is happening, altering consciousness, coming down to us all. So what is it? Set aside your bullshit for a minute.
What is it? God? Avenging angel? Chemical delusion induced by Parepin? Who the fuck cares? Kiss your girlfriend. So something nice for you mom. Settle accounts.
Stop counting on tomorrow."

In 4th Grade, my Gifted and Talented Teacher, I believe her name was Cynthia Greenwald, told me that I had a voracious desire to know and that I should foster it, never give it up, never give up on it.
I find myself thanking her. To Know is but one of the joys of existing. To Know ALL.
Yes, I know: what I really mean is "to make a courageous attempt to know and see all things and die trying," but all ideals must be unreachable, else they're not ideals.

That^ and Year Zero are just as awesome as you might have expected. And more. I can't wait to simply get in contact with the whole back story they've written, much less understand it.
And then there's the task of examining the whole damn thing from
Sky's the fucking limit, I'm telling you.

Life looks like it's so big I'll never finish it from where I stand. There's too much to do, too much to say, too many people to meet, too many experiences to have. The sky's the limit. And I only discovered this week that human personality is a fluid thing; it doesn't have to be monolithically "I'm X, Y, and Z." It can and should change and be dynamic and never settle down (save what's necessary to survive and get along in the world, which is the Prime Mover, and I'm of course still working on that). But I can be the ultimate in socially active/extroverted and switch one week later to the most hermetically-sealed introvert you'd know. I can know what it means to be confident, inconfident, unconcerned with confidence, Gandhi, God, Lenin, Luther, Crowley, Christ, Berkeley, Bob, Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Mormon...I can become any and every person from history through emulation and personality construction. "I have become all things to all men." A complete master and emulation of the universe, a complete explorer and experiencer - a connoisseur of all things, master of...
There's just too much! The sky's the limit! Damn, I'm in love with life, with Her. You, Nothing and All, "Infinite Space and the Infinite Stars thereof...I who am all pleasure and purple..."
And to think there may exist other human beings in some objective reality unprovable to my consciousness are other people who have this capacity. Damn. Damn damn damn. Wow wow wow. Multiple universes, indeed.

Musically schizophrenic Crowley advertisement. I think he would have liked it.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
"For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good." - Romans 7:15-16
Love is the law, Love under will.
